Nikon Confirms – Sadly No Sensor Cleaning for Nikon Z50

Updated: Mar 11

Mirrorless cameras are known for their compact size and light weight. These qualities are definitely going to cost certain functionalities to this new breed of the cameras. Here is a scarifying news from Nikon Z50.

The latest from Nikon is going on the same lines and has removed Mechanical Sensor Cleaning – a mechanical feature that helps in cleaning the camera sensor. This one also corresponds to a software feature known as Dust-Off Reference Data. This feature, that comes built into all the Nikon cameras asks the photographer to click an over-exposed photograph of a plain (preferably) white surface and creates a .NDF file out of it. This file helps Nikon’s proprietary Capture NX software in automatically removing the sensor dust spots and patches from the images. Here the assumption is that the photographer is going to make use of Capture NX software for photo-processing.

Nikon confirms that Z50 lacks this feature. The sacrifice on this mechanical and related software feature happened just because it has to be compact and light-weight. Nikon Z50 users will definitely miss this one.
